History of The Pecos Trail Inn
The Pecos Trail Inn originally opened in 1955 as the Town House Inn, when the southeast side of Santa Fe was just pinon trees and gravel roads. It was the heyday of the road trip, when the post-war economy was booming and American workers had disposable income (and time) to pack up the family and hit the open road.
The Town House was a destination, not just for travelers, but for locals, too. The old lounge (now our event space) was a swanky place with a dance floor and surf and turf for everyone. The pool was surrounded by glass walls and shuffleboard was played in the shade. The property was nice enough to welcome movies stars of the day, including John Wayne. Santa Fe has always been a destination for Western movie productions, with several Western movie sets outside of town.
In the late 60’s the Ellis family bought the Town House, packed up from Ohio and moved into what is now the small 2-bedroom managers suite of the motel. At some point they renamed it Pecos Trail Inn and expanded the property to include what is now the restaurant and the casitas on property.
The Ellis family ran and cared for the motel until we purchased it! While the property does need some renovations to fit our vision of a retro-modern, family-friendly motor lodge, you can rest assured that this place is super clean, really comfortable, and in great working order. We continue to update rooms and our exterior spaces in what will be a multi-year project.
